‘Jake Gyllenhaal’ trained hard for ‘Southpaw’
The 34 year old underwent enormously exactly training to prepare to play Billy Hope, a boxing champion who is attempting to get his life back on track, but the tough schedule did not just transform him physically.
Gyllenhaal went from the relatively slight 147 pounds to the ripped 175 pounds in just 6 months, trainer Terry Claybon, who whipped Jake into shape for Southpaw. And they had the lot of work to do when they 1st met up to discuss training.
Claybon said that he was not in any shape at all. We met at the boxing gym, & he was jumping rope. Just the method he was jumping rope, He knew they had a lot of work to do.
